Create a group of friends who you commonly share expenses (roommates, family, friends, etc.) and keep track of how much each person owes/is owed. Instead of trying to split costs for each purchase at the register, keep a running tally of how much each person owes/is owed. Expenses can be owned by an individual or shared between multiple people. Payouts are also calculated in the event that the group wants to eliminate all debts. Name each expense and enter a description in order to keep track of what each expense is for, and then select who to split the cost with. Send notifications to people who owe you money to remind them to pay you back.
